Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 Party Games and Activities

I watched Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 for the second time today.  It was just as interesting as it was last week, and I saw a few new things this time around that I had missed the first time. I took notes both times I watched it, just so I would remember everything.  If you are thinking of having a  Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Party, here are some games and activities that you can do from both movies. 

Be an Inventor  Flint Lockwood had been an inventor pretty much his entire life.  His most famous invention was the FLDSMDFR  aka Flint Lockwood's Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator.  It was the machine that sent all of the food to Swallow Falls.   In the second movie we see some of his other inventions like the Food Deliverer, Invisible Coffee Table and the Celebrationator.    Save up egg cartons, toilet paper rolls, boxes, lids,  and general odds and ends.  Have the kids pretend they are inventors and see what silly inventions they come up with. 

Fishing with Tim  Flint's dad Tim, loves to fish.  His even has a business Tim's Sardine, Bait and Tackle shop because of his love of fishing.  Set up a fishing station and have the kids take turns to catch the pretend fish.   This could be set up like a carnival booth, where someone behind a curtain puts a treat on the hook, or where they can catch felt fish attached to magnet. 

Obstacle Course (pictured)  At our Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs party we used our imagination and came up with our own obstacle course.  The guests put on 3 doughnuts (dollar store intertubes), carried a giant fry to some ketchup   (long skinny blinds box, and red felt)  threw felt M & Ms into a basket, jumped over the noodles (pool noodles) and limbo under a giant green bean. (a green pool noodle)   This game can be changed to what supplies you have on hand. Get the kids involved in the planning, because they usually have great imaginations.  

                                                            

Spaghetti Tornado In the first movie and the book, there is a spaghetti tornado that blows through the town.  At our party we took several very long strands of beige yarn and intertwined them all around our play area.  Each of the girls had to try and untangle their strand.  The first person to have a free and unbroken piece of spaghetti won the game.  

Design a Foodimal or Sandwich Boat  There are two ways you can do the design activity, the brave way, or the safe way.  If you decide to be brave, give the kids real food to come up with their designs.  If you prefer to be safe, have them draw their designs on paper.  In the second movie, many of the characters were Foodimals, which are half food, half animal.  Some examples of this are the Cheese Spider (giant cheeseburgers with fry legs)  Tacodile (Giant Taco Crocodile), WaterMelonphants, Sub Whales, and so many more.   

Pin the _____ on the ______   At our first party we play pinned the cherry on the sundae. What is great about a movie with food, is you can use almost any type of food as a Pin on game.  If you want to play one from the second movie some possibilities could be Pin the Tail on the Watermelonphant,  Pin the Banana Feathers on the Fruit Cockatiel, or Pin the Olive on the Tacodile.
