BEFORE
We have had a bit of a heatwave in Michigan this past week. With temps in the 70s and 80s, we broke out the summer clothes a bit early. My body though, it not really ready for summer. I currently weigh about 15-20 lbs more than my ideal weight. I have always had a fast metabolism, and have never really had to watch my weight. This year though, things seem to be slowing down, and the weigh is catching up with me. I guess that happens when you are in your 40s. For a long time we did not have a scale. Our old one broke, and we did not replace it. About a month ago, I saw some on sale, and decided to go ahead a get one. I was a bit shocked when I saw the number, as it was more than I thought it was. This morning I weighed 133.4 right out of the shower, and 135 with clothes on. While that might not sound like a lot, I am really short. I am only 5'1" and a little bit of extra weight can look like a lot more. My clothes are feeling way too tight. This is the heaviest I have been non pregnant, so I think it is time for a change. Since tomorrow is the first day of spring, I decided to make a realistic goal of losing 15 lbs by the first day of summer. That is only 5 lbs a month, and totally doable! I am sharing this on the blog, because I have never had to TRY to lose weight before, and I want to be more accountable. See I LOVE sugar! I think I am a sugar addict, as I crave it. I will still allow myself some sugar, but in moderation. I am also super busy being the mom of a teenager and two almost teens. I rarely have the time to work out. I am going to share ways you can still get some exercise, when you don't necessarily have time to go to the gym.
This is how I got some exercise today. I had to go grocery shopping. One of the things on my cart was a 24 pack of water. That thing is HEAVY, and really weighed down the cart. There were also a lot of other things in my cart that were heavy too that were put in the cart at the beginning of my shopping trip. I pushed a very heavy cart back and forth across Meijer a few times because I forgot things on opposite end of the store. It was heavy enough to make me winded, and give me a workout.
Once I got home, I got some more exercise. Since everyone was a work and school, I had to carry in the trunkload of groceries by myself. I made 9 trips! That makes 18 walks back and forth from the car in the driveway, through the garage and into the house.
I also helped at our girl scout meeting today. While I didn't get as much exercise as Kara, I was on my feet for 2 hours!
Each week, I will be posting my progress. If you too would like to slim down this spring, I would love to hear from you!
