St. Patrick's Day Pot of Gold

A fun craft for St. Patrick's Day is to make your own  Pot of Gold. I pulled out a small cauldron we had used for Halloween, found some yellow/gold paint from my craft stash, and picked up  few supplies at the dollar store.

Supplies to Make a Pot of Gold

At the Dollar Tree I picked up some Styrofoam circles, a floral foam cube, and glass accent gems .  I had some gold paint that I intended to use, but my daughter thought it looked like brown.  She suggested using a brighter yellow instead.

I placed the square floral cube inside the cauldron, and then stuffed the sides with plastic bags to hold it in place.

I then Inserted  two toothpicks into the square to hold the circle piece in place.

I painted the circle piece of Styrofoam with first the gold paint, and then a light coat of yellow

I found some yellow plastic bags, and then I added them on top of the white plastic bags

Once the paint was dry, I added the circle on top of the toothpicks.

To make the gold, Kara  painted the flat back side of the glass beads.  I would have like to have found yellow beads, but at the dollar store you work with what you find.

When you turn the painted disks over, the paint shines through the bead  in a very pretty way.

I love how this turned out! It is  just so much fun for St. Patrick's Day.  It also makes the perfect display for my Leprechaun Marshmallow Pops

When I first made these Lucky Cupcakes I found these adorable leprechaun hats at the Dollar Tree. This was awhile back though, so they are no longer available.  I did find something similar on Amazon that is currently available. After the guests are finished eating the golden cupcakes, they can keep the hat as a party favor.  ****updated 2/26/2024
