Cat Pizza Biscuits

While on the Taste of Home website today, I saw this recipe for Pizza Biscuit Bears, that I thought looked like it would be fun to make.    There was a comment in the comment section saying that it could easily be changed to a pizza cat.  I showed it to Kara and she agreed that we should try and alter the original to look like a cat. We also changed a few of the ingredients because we did not have them on hand, and the kids did not like cooked green pepper and pimento anyway.

To make pizza cats  you will need..

1 can refridgerated biscuits (we used the jumbo size with 8, but you can also use the smaller biscuit with 12)
4-6 ripe olives
2-3 mini bella mushrooms
12 slices of pepperoni
shredded cheese (we used cheddar, but you can use mozzarella too)
3 small cherry tomatoes

1 can of biscuits will make 6 cats.   Place the biscuits on an ungreased cookie sheet a few inches apart.

Because we were using the 8 jumbo size biscuits, we cut the remaining 2 in a criss cross fashion to make 6 triangles per biscuit.  Those triangles are then used as ears on the cats.  To attach the ears slightly shape a small curve on the bottom of the triangle and then press it againt the circle.

Cut the pepperoni slices into triangles and place on top of the ears.

The orginal recipe called for a piece of green pepper for the nose.  If you perfer green peppers then by all means use them for the nose.   My kids do not like them, so I used cherry tomatoes from our garden instead.  I used small ones, and then cut them in half.   I then cut each half into triangle shapes.

Place the tomato triangles point side down  on the biscuit.  I did push into the dough slightly, it did not fall off during the baking time.

I sliced the black olives and then used the best pieces as the eyes.  In this picture, Kara is trying to draw on the mouth with a toothpick because we did not have and did not want to use pimentos.   It kind of worked, but we knew that we could find something that would work better.  I then remembered that I had some mushrooms.

I sliced  a couple of mushrooms and used the best shaped slices for the mouth.  I trimmed the outer most part of the mushroom and cut it in half.  It sort of resembled a moustache.   We then placed then in a curved fashion under the nose. (sorry I forgot to take a picture of this step)

Kara then added the fur to the cats.  We used cheddar cheese, but you can easily replace it with mozzarella or your favorite cheese.

The original recipe said to bake it at 375 for 15-20 minutes.  I thought I better look at the directions on the can and follow that instead.   I baked mine at 350 degrees for 14-17 mins.

They came out nice and golden brown and taste really good.  This recipe is definitely a keeper, and it can easily be adapted to look like other animals.  It would not be too hard to change it into a  pizza pig or even a pizza monkey. These would be great for many themed childrens parties.

Enjoy!
